Van Halen Seeing How Much Of An Album Can Be Recorded In The Short Blips Of Time They Can Bear To Spend In A Room With David Lee Roth

-I saw them play in Atlantic City three years ago and it was great fun. (The pre-recorded keyboard part for "Jump" played at the correct pitch that night.) But the world needs a new album from the original Van Halen line-up like David Lee needed those white fur après-ski boots 30 years ago.

This might be hard for Americans to believe but 'Jump' is the only Van Halen record I've ever heard.
And I just decided to keep it that way by not watching the video.

Can anyone name the original bassist in the band? No internet search allowed. My guess: Michael Anthony. How is that he got screwed out of this gig in favor of Eddie's kid Wolfgang??

Oh yeah, you're right, it's Michael Anthony. And in fact, he was a pretty important member in the early days. All those great backup vocals on the first four albums? That's him. Granted, his basslines tended to consist of one or two notes repeated over and over, but he was an essential member of the band. Kicking him out for Eddie's 15-year old kid is a travesty.
Of course, it's also the exact sort of egotistical bullshit that is par for the course where this band is concerned.
And @rj77, as far as I know Anthony only ended up working with Hagar after the brothers Halen booted him out of the band. I could be wrong though. (Maura to thread…)
DLR's mom dresses him funny but he is very funny, wrote his own memoir sans ghostwriter and is amazing in the sack.

That memoir is pure insanity. No narrative thread lasts for more than a paragraph or two, but it is consistently hilarious throughout. It's the Catch 22 of rock star autobiographies.
