Inept Americans Incapable Of Properly Chilling Coffee
The greatest struggle facing our country today: "[I]n a nation overrun with frozen latte drinks, shockingly few people know how to make a respectable iced coffee at home. And with good reason: It's hard to get it right. Simply refrigerating a pot of hot coffee will certainly produce cold coffee, but you probably won't want to drink it."

I hate everything about that article.
Cockroaches and lifestyle writers are all that will survive the current calamity.
And the dregs of frozen latte drinks.
The thought of improperly brewed iced-coffee gives me the chills.
"'We don't have a clue' how to make good iced coffee at home, says Harry Balzer, NPD's chief industry analyst. Only restaurants can do it, he says." Oh bull. Probably the simplest recipe NYTimes ever printed, and how I make my coffee every day, year-round: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/dining/276drex.html
YES! I've made a french press-full of this every Sunday night for the last three years. This is the most useful article the NYT has published, ever.
As soon as I saw the headline here, I was going to go searching for this article. This recipe was remarkably easy, cheap, and not at all pretentious.
Oh awesome. Trying this tonight.
My additional hint: use a tupperware container instead of a jar – something that seals well so you can shake it up when you first mix and once again before pouring (for smoother pour into filter).
Added bonus: After drinking cold-brewed coffee for a couple weeks I realized that hot-brewed coffee had been giving me heartburn every day. Who knew.
Brew coffee.
Pour into large mug.
Put a bunch of icecubes in mug.
Drink.
Shut the fuck up, WSJ.
i prefer my coffee hot and my tea iced.
Shorter Wall Street Journal: "If you're not spending at least $20, you're too poor to deserve our respect."
I put one sugar in my iced latte, but no sugar in hot latte. So now you know.
You know what's a great alternative to iced coffee. Popsicles! (be sure to serve them at the right temperature – you don't want them too solid or too mushy)
Where the fuck do I start? How about, this is the rag that employs Peggy Noonan, right? Reality check complete.
I love how not only does proper require a new, single-purpose gadget be purchased, but also twice the amount of coffee to achieve properness (friends of mine tired of the specialized grind required of their cold brew pot and gave it up). I cannot count how many times The Vicar has raved over my iced coffee at one of my legendary candlelight suppers, and has not once left in a huff because I had improperly chilled the coffee. My standing remains intact.
Here's the deal: use freshly ground quality beans (and in my home, any hint of a Starbucks charring means that coffee is tossed in the rose bed), french press 'em, chill however the hell you want, and enjoy (if you like sweet iced coffee, NOTHING beats pure maple syrup).
Beware of all beverages requiring new appliances.
Actually, the problem with home brewed iced coffee is the ice cubes. I'm sorry, but the only acceptable kind are the flat style found in coffee shops. The square kind as produced by home freezers: unacceptable.
