In shocking news to anyone that hasn't read a YouTube comment before, a new study on grammar out of Northumbria University reveals that most people have absolutely zero idea on how to formulate a sentence. On the results of the study Dr. Dabrowska writes: "These findings are ground breaking, because for decades the theoretical and educational consensus has been solid. Regardless of educational attainment or dialect we are all supposed to be equally good at grammar, in the sense of being able to use grammatical cues to understand the meaning of sentences." Don't be too alarmed: the study took place in England.

Tis is my bros post!!!!! U just edited and reposted it under your name1!!! sup widdat?? TAke it down a$$ cracker.!!!
Isn't it "Irregardless of educational attainment..."?
b mor stuped, fukfacez.
Yeah this is pretty suspicious. It might be that less educated people are less exposed to the passive because it's a relatively rare form in normal speech (not writing). Then all this study shows is that the structures they're testing for aren't an important part of the language.
Also people with education are demonstrably more accustomed to / better at taking tests, period. And reading. And, you know, giving a shit about answering correctly.
Where is this "England"? Anywhere near Knifecrime Island?
Me Stab Pretty One Day.
So the upshot of this is that, what, we should be teaching kids grammar? Good idea!
wot innit wiv dis?
Ha ha! Suck it, Chomsky!
t-shirt! t-shirt!
In fairness to linguists, online comments are near-guaranteed to be written, and not spoken (i.e., not have been entered via a speech recognition program). But most research linguistics focuses strictly on the regular, out-loud kind of language. Also, linguists probably don't want anything more than a passing acquaintance with the average Youtube commenter.
can i just say that i despise passive voice? that's all.
