Russia Has A Drunk-Drowning Epidemic
It's been a billion degrees in Russia since mid-June, and as a consequence, 1200 people have drowned-and"49 people, including two children, had drowned in the last day," is what CNN says. "The majority of those drowned were drunk," said Vadim Seryogin, a department head at Russia's Emergencies Ministry. "The children died because adults simply did not look after them." I don't really have a funny name for Russia to go with this because somehow this seems sadder than English people stabbing each other constantly, though it's probably not.

Fricking Popov noodles were the worst idea since blini-tini's
Officials have urged citizens to take a siesta in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.
I KNEW it. Red Dawn was right, the Cubans and Russians are in cahoots!
Ah, but the nightmare of child rearing drove them to drink so…you're right it is sad.
…did they even go in the water?
Having Rasputin as a hero is ill-advised.
They should learn CCCP-R
While very sad, this should not be very surprising. The fact is, the majority of Russians are very inbred as they derive from about 50-60 original settlers. (As we know from Appalachia, inbreds and alcohol do not mix well — thank goodness Russians have not fallen en masse for Moutain Dew, yet).
Apparently, these founders were not good swimmers. Hardy bastards, though.
most of us alcoholic inbreeders of appalachia prefer rc cola (and a moon pie).
Really. As I understand it, you guys mainline The Dew.
I read the headline as drunk-dronwing elephant.
"Dronwing" sounds like it should be a character in The Black Cauldron. (Not to be typo Nazi; I was just amused.)
Edit button needed for sure.
Wasn't there a similar epidemic of drunk drowning among Midwestern college students a few years ago? I think all the same tropes generally apply.

Lightweight. We have this on Knifecrime Island too. We call it drinking the pond. How we laugh!
