This morning, the CEO of ScienceBlogs announced the termination of a their Pepsi advertorial blog, to be written by the fine scientists at Pepsi, after a huge freakout and the defection of some bloggers. Some there think the outrage was hypocritical!
I like science and I like blogs, so why do I hate, like, everything I read on ScienceBlogs so much?
You like the sausage but not the sausage makers?
Just as long as they keep Dr. Pepper's blog.
As a science blogger with maybe one or two scruples, no more, I couldn't get too excited about the blogger exodus except to think whether I could write all those bloggers and we could conglomerate into one huge ruthless irresistible juggernaut science blog. Except we'd probably just sell something to, say, Halliburton, and everybody would exodus again. Has anyone ever wondered how you make money on the internet?
Provided the new blog had maintained similar standards to the stuff already posted on the pepsi website it would've been better than 90% of the blogs on scienceblogs. Defectors are a bunch of precious little bastards.
