Michiko Kakutani really, really, really likes Gary Shteyngart's new novel, Super Sad True Love Story. She thinks it's super!

If even Kakutani likes it, I'm officially the only person not interested in Shteyngart. The descriptions of his books annoy me.
P.S. I'm also probably not going to read Jennifer Egan's "A Visit from the Goon Squad." So there.
Good for you. Someone has to keep checking John Cowper Powys' novels out of libraries.
Damn you, I thought I was going to have this post to myself! I was going to start listing every book I'm not going to read, and John Cowper Powy's oeuvre was next.
I distrust her opinion due to her dislike of Absurdistan (which was politically pitch-perfect) and worry that the political satire here will be off-putting. That said, I do like "sweet emperor penguin."
I felt the New Yorker review of Absurdistan was so over-the-top that it was unsettling and creepy. I believe they used the phrase "white horse." But it made me read it. I liked it. Not perfect, not white horse, but pretty good. But boy do I resent Steinhardt for that review. I haven't read this review yet but I have a feeling how it'll make me feel. And I don't resent anybody! I am very relaxed!
I've read it now and…meh. Effusive for her but not nuts. Also the parts she excerpts are not that impressive.
Basically I think [sing-song] Michiko has a boyfriend!
This is when I closed tab:
"Everyone carries around a device called an äppärät, which can live-stream its owner's thoughts and conversations, and broadcast their "hotness" quotient…. [close tab in disgust]"
It's like a 60-year-old making fun of the Facebooks. And Shteyngart is not even 40!
