Coming out of exile to ask, didn't Trent Reznor do this in 2008 on nin.com with forum/chat, collecting pics and vid from the tours, geotagging, iPhone apps, the remix site, fan interaction, etc.? And wasn't he basically condensing several different free web services onto his own site?

Forgot to add, Reznor's collation of "neat shit from the internet" onto his site went so well that his fanbase produced their own 3-disc DVD and distributed it physically.
