"Try not to fall too hard for Anthony Weiner. As riveting as they are, his theatrics — last night and every time he makes noise on the House floor or cable television — are best understood as part of a shrewd strategy to position Weiner for the 2013 New York mayor's race."

:(
This confuses me. I don't really care why politicians do what they do - presumably there's careerism behind most if not all of their actions. That's how it's supposed to work. If that careerism means they call bullshit on bureaucratic gridlock and make a good case for good laws, that's really the most anyone can expect from them.
Agreed. If he does what he says he's going to do, who cares what his aspirations are, within legal limits? In what other profession does doing your job well raise suspicion that you WANT TO SUCCEED?

Excellent point.
@DoctorDisaster +one zillion
I would like to think that Weiner actually feels a little something for people who selflessly dealt with the horrible aftermath of 9/11 and are now dying penniless because of it. He seems like a human being to me.

wow
IT'S ALL TRUE.
Who cares? He can give me everything from hot dogs on down.
"The votes are in and the WEINER is..."
(sorry. I couldn't help my self. I have a problem)
We relish your contributions all the same.
Sounded kosher to me.
I don't know what you're all going onion about.
This pun cuts the mustard in my book.
Wiener's floor rant was Seventies vintage Al Pacino shit.
I mean, it's not that surprising that a politician is acting in his political best-interest. I still think he believed what he was saying, at least to some extent.
The fact that he wimped out against Bloomberg last time disqualifies him. And shows he's a lousy politician - he could have won.
