David Weigel has resigned from the Washington Post, where he covered the conservative movement, after some of his e-mails revealed that he might not be a complete and utter sycophant to the subjects of his coverage. Weigel has been one of the more talented writers on my radar screen for some time now even though he is apparently about six years old, so this is a pretty major blow to the Post, which should know better. Salon's Alex Pareene has some thoughts.

Never should have CC'd Michael Hastings.

Ah, I didn't realize it actually was a group e-mail thing, so to clarify, this was just a poor joke (my specialty).

Maybe WaPo can rehire Ben Domenech. Because that worked out so well last time.

Fixed that for etc.

"Weigel isn't a "conservative blogger" — he's a journalist covering the conservative movement. Weigel is a libertarian. He voted for Ron Paul in the primaries."

…David, take the rest of the day off.

Looking forward to Sarah Palin's e-mail hacker getting a column at The Daily Caller.

Weigel is a damn gift to politics. I've been reading his shit since he wrote for Reason, and his importance as a principled left-libertarian can't be overstated. Fuck you, WaPo.

DoctorDisaster (#1,970)

A great journalist with tons of followers and a good handle on an interesting ongoing story, dropped because he made fun of Matt Drudge in an e-mail. Wow, WaPo. Just wow.

B-b-but Arthur Sulzberger says "good journalism is good business". Isn't that all there is to it?

Yeah, well, ya know, I'll take intellectual honesty over objectivity any day of the week, so, yeah, fuck you WaPo

He was on "Countdown" last night, talking about Rupert Murdoch and immigration. Keith Olbermann said something dumb about the 'right-wing noise machine' and midgets (?) and Dave Weigel made this weird WTF? face, which was very endearing.
(Also, he seemed really sharp.)

Ha! I noticed that too!

Such a ratfuck. Weigel didn't deserve this. Ezra Klein has terminated Journolist, and Tucker Carlson (denied access to it) seems to have his hands all over this. Hardball! What a bag o' boiling dicks DC's backstabbing village is.

Oh, and I wish someone would set Tucker afire so I could decline to piss on him. Not the first time I've thought of this. Oh no, nuhnuh no.

hockeymom (#143)

Tucker Carlson just oozes insincerity.
I dislike him quite a bit.

Baroness (#273)

Just found out recently that Tucker's mom is a Swanson frozen-foods heiress. No wonder he's been decrying taxing the very very rich more than ten cents a year is socialism.

flossy (#1,402)

There is an anti-Matt-Drudge-setting-himself-on-fire camp?

flossy (#1,402)

Oh noes, another position to fill at the Washington Post–are there even any more former George W. Bush speechwriters left out there? I'm assuming David Frum is too outré for membership on the neocon hack welfare rolls, which are full to bursting already.
