Some People In Some States Voted Yesterday
There was politics last night! In Pennsylvania, party-switching career politician Arlen Specter saw his career end in a Democratic primary loss to Rep. Joe Sestak, marking the first time Pennsylvania Democrats were able to beat Specter statewide. In Kentucky, Rand "Son of Ron" Paul beat the establishment candidate in the Republican Senate primary, proving that the Tea Party movement "is huge," and not too crazy for Kentucky Republicans. In Arkansas, incumbent Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln was forced into a run-off with Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in what an Arkansas paper adorably thinks is "one of the most closely watched Senate races in the nation." It was, everybody agrees, a bad night for incumbents and a sign that America is fed up with blah blah blah etc. (Of course Dems in Pennsylvania were able to hold on to the late Jack Murtha's seat, a feat which Politico suggests "casts serious doubt on the idea that the Democratic House majority is in jeopardy and offers comfort to a Democratic Party that is desperately in search of a glimmer of hope," but that messes with the narrative, so let's not go too crazy.) Anyway, it all means something, and will continue to do so until the next thing happens, at which point it might mean something else. Politics!

I want an investigation into what happened to the "y" in Rand Paul's name.
Ask his sister, Ru. She'll know Y.
All of this reportage has really been setting off my Ayn Rand gag reflex.
It's gone Galt.
Bulletin: Ask Mrs. Paul. Something's fishY.
Write that down, Balk.
Even this, the greatest of victories ever in the history of mankind, cannot completely displace Ron's disappointment that his son is not a daughter named Ayn Rand Paul.
I'm gonna go on assuming that alt-text is a Boyz II Men reference, thank you.
NOT TOO VAGUE NOT TOO OFF
For Arlen, it truly is hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
As a former inmate of Pennsylvania it comes as no surprise that the people of Pennsylvania would replace one politician with another politician who may or may not be much different from the incumbent which is being replaced.

Tim Curry for Senate!
I think there's something unsettling about 80 year old men like Arlen Specter promising to "fight for the people of this state" and all that.
It reeks of desperation (and recklessness) at an age where most of us would be more than happy to STOP WORKING.
Same thing goes of Old Man McCain: pick one of your seven homes and just chill the fuck out.
So I guess there was no "magic bullet" for him this time, eh? Hee-hee!

Yeah, whatever, can we talk about how freaking hot Rand Paul's wife is? Surely the most attractive politician's wife I have ever seen.
Have you seen Mrs. Kucinich? http://roissy.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/preview.jpg
Wooo, Mrs. Kucinich! Although Jenny Sanford gives her a run for her money.
Mrs Kucinich is way hotter.
Er, that was supposed to be in reply to sigerson and spiralbetty, but I will also aver that Elizabeth Kucinich is hotter than Arlen Specter.
Probably. I suspect she has a pulse.
Did Dale win?

Commissioners get appointed. He just really wanted to run that add.
Real answer: there weren't primaries in Alabama (if anyone has the nerve to primary Dale to begin with).
The narrative I find most egrigious is the "this shows Obama's weak" line. First, it's based on two candidates, one of whom was forced into a runoff she'll probably win, while the second was a lifelong Republican running in a Democratic primary (here's a narrative to try out: it's amazing how well Specter did in a Democratic primary, considering . . . ). But more importantly than that, he was operating with the barest minimum of votes needed to pass legislation (such as, um, health care reform–where Lincoln voted to invoke cloture), and both candidates were sitting Senators (with, like, votes). It would have been JUST FLAT-OUT STUPID to support their opponents.
This is also what most annoys me about the anti-Lincoln crowd. What kind of Democrat do you think you're going to get from Arkansas? As long as she's voting for cloture, she's Democrat enough for me.
I agree completely. Sadly, the Republican is likely to win this seat, especially if Dems sit on their hands.
Also, "egregious."
I get all my political analyses from a masturbating bear.
