Little Girls In "Liking To Play Dress-Up" Shocker

tiptoe through the tulipsToday, the New York Post engages in a little bit of its every-so-often "but what about the children (of celebrities)" teeth-gnashing with an extended look at how shoe manufacturers are marketing shoes with one- to two-inch heels to young girls — like, pre-K young. The peg for this piece: A picture of Suri "The Most Photographed Child In America" Cruise wearing what look like a pair of Minnie Mouse-inspired Mary Janes while being toted around by her dad. The predictable Post commenter response: "Suri looks ridiculous. Sounds like she rules at home. No recent photos of her. Maybe she is recovering from cosmetic surgery. She is 4 now. Never too young to start." Is it a sign of my jadedness that I'm saving my weary outrage for when someone decides to pair them with the Daisy Duke diapers?

I have several thoughts about this!
1) They're kids. They're not your kids. Therefore, none of your business, New York Post, what they are wearing.
2) As someone who rolled her ankle and really fucked it up, heels can be dangerous and cause long-term damage. Also, unnatural posture, etc.
3) Little girls wearing expensive heeled shoes MAY also be pressured to keep them clean, not run and play, and "be ladylike". This is not good for little girls.

So in conclusion: This is not good, but it is also none of your business, general public.

Considering she won't be allowed to wear heels once she's over 4' tall or she'll tower over her father, why not let little Suri enjoy the Bunions of Womanhood now?

I can only imagine what the Post will have to say about MAC's new Disney villains-inspired line of cosmetics:

(Being able to look like Cruelle DeVille sounds awesome to me, but maybe only because I secretly think I would have a decent shot on Drag Race.)

My Number Is My Address

Frankly I'm a little more concerned about what they'll say when they find out about Muslim fundamentalist childrenswear:

As neither a lady nor a parent of a lady, I feel like maybe I should be exempt from this debate, but I'll say that if any newspaper were to write an article passing judgement on my parenting based solely on a photo of my child, I would goddamn burn them to the ground.

what's the problem with ridiculous footwear? And this sartorial critique from people taking their fashion cues from Snooki and the Situation?

Just as an aside, I like to wear slippers that look like little choo choo trains.

Daisy duke diapers and little high heels? Sounds like Jessica Simpson's childrens clothing line to me.

Beyonce is way ahead of this trend. This, um, "couture" came out 2 years ago.

Suri is wearing THAT dress, and they want to talk about how ridiculous her shoes are???

Or THOSE earrings?

Not to mention red and white polka dots with pink/silver glitters? Doesn't she have stylist?

My only issue with this is that the NY Post has nothing better to write about.

Oh wait, it's the NY Post.

Carry on.

@ Cherrispryte.
The fashion "choices" (by which I mean what's foisted on them by grasping stylists) of Hollywood's fashionable spawn are actively touted as an example for middle-class kids around the world to follow. Hence a pretty good indication of your kids will be asking for next year.

So it might be trivial or unimportant, but its not "none of your business."
