Haiti: Oh Yeah, That!
What's up in Haiti, you wonder? Here's what's new!
• Haiti will now receive international mail . All incoming mail has been held since January 15.
• Yesterday, Haiti had a small earthquake! Can you imagine? Mostly it just freaked people out, understandably.
• And here is a Q&A about mental health issues post-quake in Haiti.
• Here is a graph about the news cycle coverage drop-off about Haiti, which is accurate, numerically! But also true that newspapers cover what is new, by definition.

Yeah, it's a strange one to cover. Long-term recovery efforts aren't exactly in the wheelhouse of the newspaper biz. Hopefully the mags will carry the load on Haiti. Just know, you're all complicit in your ignorance. Have a good day!
If the wind shifts, BP is sending Haiti a shit-ton of free oil.
they could really use it in port au (the capital formerly known as) prince.
I was in an 8.1 quake. Obviously, the buildings were constructed much better, so I wasn't actually in a huge amount of danger. The aftershocks, though, fucked with my mind so bad. I think we had over 3,000 above a 5 on the Richter scale. I slept with a glass of water next to my bed so I could tell if things were actually shaking or if I was just freaking out. So, yeah, mental health is going to be a big issue for years to come.
Post '89, we called those wake-up-middle-of-night-was-that-an-aftershock-or-am-I-just-dreaming things "Richter Scares".
