Although The Correct Term Is "Grindcore," Not "Death Metal"

Pretty sure Rachel Sontag's piece on finding love during the time of unemployment is the first time Pig Destroyer has been mentioned in the Times' Styles section.

We also would have accepted "powerviolence," though this is not exactly correct.

"He lay beside me on the couch as I read him passages from my favorite books: "Franny and Zooey," "Cathedral.""

So I take it Craig is banging a middle-schooler?

That fucking kiddie fiddler!

Aren't all modern rock genres so narrowly defined that at best only one group fits each description and they then adamantly deny being so easy to pigeonhole?

Straight Outta Compton was a love song.

I would agree in a lot of cases, because a lot of people prize originality too much in this era of over-recording, but in the case of grind I would say that it has integrity as a genre. Ive see several bands play grid impressively in an unoriginal way. That is, they don't have any particular twist on the music, but rather make it work just by playing it really well, which in my mind is what marks the existence of a real genre.

I roll deep on the BNL. True fact: I sang Alcohol at karaoke this weekend.

So "Modern" love is the same old passive-agressive bullshit?

Repulsion is/was death metal, or proto-death, at least. But PxDx and Brutal Truth are indeed grindcore.

So this was really troubling, then, seeing as I get all my metal tips from the Times. NOW where do I turn?

I mean, I wouldn't even have known about the killer Portal side project Impetuous Ritual if the Times hadn't mentioned it in a delightfully cheeky Metropolitan Diary:

"My stars! I didn't ORDER whitefish!" I cried in disbelief.

Saith the swarthy deli worker in replye: "Lady, you actually did order it. Also, if you enjoy Portal's unique brand of insane Lovecraft-metal, check out Impetuous Ritual, whose debut, Relentless Execution Of Ceremonial Excrescence, is out now on Profound Lore."

"Good HEAVENS!" I bleated. "Only in New York!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
