Irate "Wall Street" Will Trim Its Own Hedges

"Wall Street" will even clean up this animal's poop on its ownThe supposed e-mail from an angry Wall Street (it speaks with one voice, you know) which New York reports is "allegedly" making the rounds today, seems almost too good to be true. One might even be tempted to suggest that it was made up to inspire further animus toward the financial services sector that took such careless risks with our economy. Still, genuine or not, the entitled tone is pretty accurate. And threatening!

Go ahead and continue to take us down, but you're only going to hurt yourselves. What's going to happen when we can't find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We're going to take yours. We get up at 5am & work till 10pm or later. We're used to not getting up to pee when we have a position. We don't take an hour or more for a lunch break. We don't demand a union. We don't retire at 50 with a pension. We eat what we kill, and when the only thing left to eat is on your dinner plates, we'll eat that.

For years teachers and other unionized labor have had us fooled. We were too busy working to notice. Do you really think that we are incapable of teaching 3rd graders and doing landscaping? We're going to take your cushy jobs with tenure and 4 months off a year and whine just like you that we are so-o-o-o underpaid for building the youth of America. Say goodbye to your overtime and double time and a half. I'll be hitting grounders to the high school baseball team for $5k extra a summer, thank you very much.

If Wall Street scoops up all those sweet unionized jobs, what then? It's the reference to landscaping that actually has me worried that there might be more to this than some kind of a prank. The market knows that we're sending all our landscapers back to their country of origins; if it's willing to pick up the slack in the industries formerly known as Work Americans Refuse To Do For Themselves, just how fucked are the rest of us? Are we going to have to start taking in laundry because some asshole from Merrill is willing to paint his own house? Maybe we should just give these people what they want and not bring it up again!

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?... raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. "Voodoo" economics.

Perhaps my favorite comment ever.

It's really unfortunate, though, that Ben Stein has become such a horrible, horrible person. Or at least that he's come to put his horribleness on such open display.

He's always been horrible.

I'm still thinking about what kind of job training it takes to become a cat wrangler and this guy wants MY job? Have at it.

I can see a wall street person writing that no problem. Those guys have BIG egos if theyre to make it in that biz. I know a few. Half of them have no education, you dont need one, its all gambling.

Arrogant, lazy, no lifelong learning, greedy, only works 7 hours a day, no overtime, no afterhours calls, racist, woman bashing... come try to take my job lol, ill run circles around you.

The outline to the novel Ayn Rand never wrote. "Don't make me go back to school for my MSW, because I'll DO it. I'll administer the hell out of that supportive-housing program for homeless veterans, don't think I won't!!!"

It reads fake to me, because it just so perfectly matches the Republican talking points of:
a) Regulating Wall Street will destroy the economy
b) Wall street dickweeds work super hard and therefore totally deserve $20 million bonuses
c) Teachers are villainous slackers who don't deserve to be paid

I'll wager four quatloos that it was penned by some angry Tea Partier in an attempt to move the political debate on financial reform.

How is an email "allegedly" making the rounds? It either is--ie, you've been sent it multiple times, or there is a list of people cc'd who have been forwarded it--or it isn't. I AM CONFUSED.

Hmmm....I'd be happy to let them have my job.
Same hours, same bathroom/food issues, no union. The only thing different is that after they're done doing my job, they get to come home and drive kids around for several hours. And before they do my job, they can drive kids around for several more hours.
Oh...and the pay is slightly different.

So STFU bank-idiots. You couldn't do my job.

Wait a minute? I could earn $5K/summer hitting balls to the HS baseball team? I've spent the last three summers watching those guys for no profit!

Oh horseshit. This like when "Wall Street" claims that high city taxes will cause it to move to New Jersey or Connecticut or some such. Horseshit. Horseshit. Horseshit.
