The last collection by Alexander McQueen showed today, privately, and the slideshow is really worth a look. That this is a gorgeous and sentimental occasion does not make him any less of a complete asshole as well.

The photo above suggests an homage to Ali McGraw, stirred perhaps by memories of their work together on The Getaway.
starfucker
That particular dress in the photo makes me fall down and weep. How did he get fabric to do that? And how can clothes so alien-looking be so perfectly beautiful?
She looks like Elisabeth of Valois or something. I really dig it.
They're all so pretty, in a Romanov sort of way. It just makes me sad.
Aren't we all complete assholes, really?
If we kill ourselves. But don't do that, or Choire will be very angry with you.
#5!
Sigh.
Good LORD those are gorgeous. HEAVENLY. Why didn't anyone wear McQueen to the Oscars?
Hmm, good question.
My thought exactly! Wouldn't Zoe Saldana have looked heavenly in the above dress, instead of wearing glitter and giant purple pom poms?
Somebody did, or at least I saw one of those insecty print dresses that might have been from his last collection. In fact, I've seen a couple of those insecty dresses around and about. Unless I'm wrong which I often am.
@Annie: Naomi Campbell has been wearing his stuff everywhere since he died, including one of the dresses from the last collection (which look more reptilian than insecty to me). I didn't see any McQueen at the Oscars though, unless I missed something in the red carpet recaps.
I'm looking for it, but apparently Salma Hayek wore McQueen to an after party.
Not enough skin showing.
Here are the insecty dresses which apparently are in fact reptilian: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/S2010RTW-AMCQUEEN
And now I'll get off the internet.
Oh right, I just saw TroutS, whose eye for reptiles is better than mine. Now really, off the internet.

Christian Siriano did a knock off of the claw shoe for Payless.

In my world, the last McQueen was Steve.
This is what fashion should be.
I think you're right, because these pieces take you to another place. And that's what art should do.
Why do these models all look like they just swallowed worms? Also, nobody in the real world has legs that long. I suspect they're aliens.
"Ready to Wear"? Ha! Not one of these pieces is a knock-off worthy.
McQueen was a coutourier, through and through.
McQueen's stuff is really beautiful, sort of medieval aristocrat and reminds me of images in illuminated manuscripts.
And related to nothing, I saw McQueen once or twice at Squeezebox! ages ago. Both times or was it once he was surrounded by a posse of hip hop twinks...
Sad to loose a creative talent.
That should be lose not loose...
Oh my God, the H. Bosch print in #2? Gorgeousness and gorgeosity.
Who else is going to make garments like these for us. What a terrible, terrible loss.
