The new Pavement retrospective/best-of gets a Pitchfork 10, despite the mandatory disclaimer: "To be sure, it's all very much of its time and no band aside from perhaps Guided By Voices better epitomizes the sound and style of 1990s indie rock, but the material transcends its era as much as it defines it."

Within the review, however, they criticized the album as coming off too derivative of Pavement.
Related: did anyone see the photo in RS? Yowsa does Ibold look hard bit. Who knew bartending was that rough (and the writer gets a really nice dig at Malkmus at the end).
The omission of "Father to a Sister of Thought" from this compilation is nothing short of ill-advised.
Pitchfork is engaging in an epic early-mid-life-crisis fuck-a-coed spree. Giving a perfect 10 to a Spiritualized box set that's a UK import costing $300 just so they can point out how much better music was when the cheerleaders wouldn't fuck them? You know what my dad thinks are perfect albums? Credence Clearwater Remastered.

I love how Pitchfork gives the new Pavement Best-of a perfect 10, yet calls one of only TWO included Wowee Zowee cuts on the comp ("Fight This Generation") "a throwaway" in their WZ reissue review.
Because Pitchfork is clearly a single person with very inconsistent opinions.
If I also wrote the Wowee Zowee review, I can promise you that I wouldn't have said a bad word about "Fight This Generation," one of my favorites.
"Fight This Generation" is a throwaway, though. And as nice as Brighten the Corners was, WZ was and is a lot of kool aid.
