People will tell you to read Will Leitch's story about Roger Ebert, and they will be correct to do so. Even if you think that after the Esquire profile and Ebert's response you are all Eberted out, you should still give this a shot.

Every time I read something like this by Will Leitch I am pleasantly surprised at how poetically beautiful it is. You would think the surprise would disappear after awhile, but for some reason "poetically beautiful" and "former editor of Deadspin" have a hard time sticking in the same sentence in my brain.

YES, both about the quality of his writing and it seeming odd considering the source.

Oh, Lord. Ironminds.com! Andy Wang! Haven't thought about them in years. They were kinda awful, far as I remember.

Ebert seems like an all-round awesome guy. Sometimes his reviews veer a bit too personal (I remember a silly dispute with his coreviewer over Iris because he knew her books too well), but that just makes him seem more human. Plus, writing Beyond the Valley of the Dolls makes him a god.

I can never be Eberted out. Thanks for the link.

no one can!

Oh my god, for a second there that was like reading a Public Apology. I am still cringing and kind of laughing. Great link.

I had to skip over Ebert's reply to his hit piece –scroll, scroll, scroll.

The bit about the tradition of having sex on the EIC desk at the Daily Illini was news to me. But very nice piece Will. Actually when I was there, it was having sex in the experimental cornfield.

Hugh Hefner is, in fact, the only DI staffer who did not score on that desk, leading to some aberrant behavior later in his life.

I am failing to come up with a sufficiently clever observatory response, so IT WAS VERY VERY GOOD.

Wish there was a story this good on every shitty day I have. Will settle for today, though.

So the lesson here is: watch your back around Will Leitch because regardless of how cool you've been to him in the past, he won't hesitate to fuck you over if he needs something to write about.

Thanks for the link. I had missed this. Roger E. his an institution. Will's writing is crisp, clear and sharp. I love it.

This just in! Roger forgives Will via Twitter!
"ebertchicago A sweet article by a long time friend who did indeed once bring a wince to my fat face. All is forgiven. http://j.mp/95lUGu"

Ebert just wants to make everyone cry! Eeeee.

I also came to post this, in case anyone else was checking Ebert's Twitter all day in hopes of reconciliation!
