Canadian PSAs Odd, Canadian

Listicles about commercials always do well on the Web, so we're pleased as punch to point out this compilation of crazy Canadian PSAs assembled by our good pals at Gawker.tv-the happy version of Gawker.com. While I'm disturbed by the dearth of bear-related content here, the post is as good an explanation as any I've seen for the bland weirdness exhibited by the tundra farmers to our north: They learned it by watching these! (Some bonus Canadian amusement can be found here.)

This one made me laugh and laugh, but I'm not sure if it's too insidery: http://harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=11

apparently, i had managed to fully block this one out, but memories of these, and other random canuck commericials, from sunday nights on CBC watching 'the racoons' & 'road to avonlea' are coming flooding back.

The Canadians are a confused people. On the one hand, they instruct, "Dontcha put it in your mouth," while with the other, they recommend you "eat at least two servings a day from the Meat Group."

Also, no Big Snit? It's the beautifulest and weirdest and always makes me choke up, and then feel silly for choking up.

It's not really a PSA, though, is it? Although it is one of the most delightful things the NFB has ever created. Also: The Log Driver's Waltz!

As a Manitoban, I prefer the too-controversial-for-TV Louis Riel Heritage Moment.

Does anyone else remember the insanely trippy PSA with singing blue spherical puppets representing prescription pharmaceuticals (which you should not consume in great quantities, apparently) singing "We're not candy?" I don't remember the rest of the lyrics, though I think they might have rhymed the key line with "...fine and dandy" somehow.

Also, there was a cartoon one about how you shouldn't put too many condiments on your meals, where various foodstuffs sang "Don't drown your food!" Which, in retrospect, what the hell? What did you have against mustard, Carter-era America? (Or possibly Canada, as I lived in Buffalo.)

This post is in need of disclosure. How much? How much did Blakely pay you?

He gave you alcohol, didn't he? Out with it!

Damn. You beat me to it. I was just about to make the disclosure joke.

Hippity, I say this with love, but you are a world-class kiss-ass.

I think my high-school girlfriend must have been brainwashed with this commercial as a kid.

There are so many different conclusions that one could take from that statement.

It probably isn't any of my business.
