Tillikum the Slave

"He was two years [old] when the slavers captured him in 1982 and hauled him off to the little town of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in the far Canadian west. And there he met his fellow slaves, Nootka and Haida. Day after day in slave school they learned their tricks."
-Alexander Cockburn "goes there" about the "killer whale" attacks and quotes Frederick Douglass along the way.

"I will not accept my slave name!"

MST3K beat Cockburn to that idea about 10 years ago. But hey! Nice try!

Am I the only person on the planet that didn't know that 13 on House is his niece?

(PS: Everyone should read The Dreaded Comparison.)

OOOOOHHHHHH ... all these killer whale attacks are in response to overwork and they simply want the right to unionize?

Good god, man. We don't want them to unionize. HAVEN'T YOU READ SWIMMY???

I think it's that along with the fact that they're, you know, *killer* whales.

Colonel Mustard

I tried sneaking a killer whale to safety in Canada via the underground railroad, and let me just tell you - hiding a giant fish in a crawlspace behind your fireplace does not end well.

Alexander Cockburn didn't "go there" with this article. He went there decades ago and hasn't budged.

It's piffle like this what makes me want to club a seal or two from time to time.

There is probably an argument or two or three to be made about this article but invoking baby seal-clubbing is not involved in any of them. Team Orca until I hear something cogent from the other side.

I did not specify the age of seals. Perhaps I was referring to assisted suicide of elderly seals? You just don't know.

Also: Cockburn and Tillikum? Someone's trolling us, and that someone might be God.

formerly it takes a lot etc.

My Number Is My Address

Anyone else read "slavers" as the verb of the same name. Crazy stuff.

I will give it to the animals when they ask, in English, for it. Until then, meh. Animal circus is for losers but the biggest losers is animals. Tie game.
