"Some people outside of Texas may have this view that we're a gun-toting society; we're not."
-State Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston), on the current debate over whether visitors to the state Capitol should be forced to go through metal detectors when they enter the building. "The discussion comes after a man last month fired several shots on the steps of the towering Capitol in Austin. State troopers tackled him and no one was wounded, but the incident spotlighted a predicament for lawmakers in a state where carrying handguns is not only legal but largely cherished." The man had been turned away from Patrick's office after requesting a private meeting with the Senator.

Two words: Brian Nichols. Cherish guns in your government buildings at your own risk, Lone Stars!
Protect your right to be shot in the face in your own office, Sen. Patrick!
I have to admit, seeing the "no guns" sign on doors at the Austin Convention Center did freak me out a bit -- I mean, people need to be actively told that it's not appropriate to go to large, public gatherings with handguns? -- right before it made me laugh, because in Texas, people need to be actively told that it's not appropriate to go to large, public gatherings with handguns.
Sadly, Ohio is the same way. Even libraries have to have a sign that says 'no firearms allowed.'
Local rag said that more than 11,500 of the 279,000 residents in my PA County have a Concealed Carry Permit. Glassings are unknown in these here parts. Regrettably, lots of shooting going on.
You never know when there might be a deer in the state capitol that needs to be shot and dressed in the rotunda.
You also never want to be in the position not to be able to return fire. Also, if you ever get pinned down, you better hope you're carrying a couple extra clips of ammo.
Mabye Charles Whitman had grandkids.
ha!
(Mmm, it's kind of bad I laughed at that).
A 'couple'? I never leave the house without six full clips carried on my person, in addition to the final round I carry in my wallet that I do hope I will never have to use. Sounds paranoid I know but that's the kind of world we now live in.
And when Olbermann finally got back to MSNBC studios, he named the troopers who arrested him the Worst People in the World.
We also may have a view that you're largely a bunch of troglodytes, gun-toting ones at that.
guns, schmuns-being asian, i automatically never leave the house without BEING A NINJA.
