Today in music: "Shane MacGowan has gathered together a group of his musician friends to record I Put a Spell on You in aid of Concern Worldwide's work in Haiti. The stellar cast featured vocals from Shane MacGowan, Nick Cave and Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie, the Sex Pistols Glen Matlock, The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde and Paloma Faith and finally Eliza Doolittle. On guitars were James Walbourne, The Clashs Mick Jones and Johnny Depp, who recorded his parts in LA." You know what? Johnny Depp SHREDS. I fully endorse this video. [Via]

I LOVE that all of these people are friends. ("Friends"?)
Also can we flash back to my favorite Shane McGowan collaboration moment? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8oyxrrEk58
That one's damn awesome, but I've got to go with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxCM9dellRs
No, no, no, no, it's this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrAwK9juhhY
No,no,no,no,no,no,no, it's REALLY this one, as this collaboration was totally influential on MacGowan's career, and he was (for once) playing with fellas he really, really respected: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHDX9qb2-BQ
Fuck, Johnny, why must you make the rest of us look bad, constantly?
Johhny may be Johnny, but he can't touch your avatar.
There is no way to explain this properly, so I'm just going to put it out there. After listening to that, I feel like I didn't miss Lundi Gras for the first time since I left New Orleans.
And also, I'm glad they did it for Haiti.
Great song, but I'm fairly certain a number of Haitians are not particular fans of its use in this context.
