Hamas Hit Inspired By Pop Culture?

"Friendly nations who have been assisting in this investigation have indicated to the police in Dubai that the passports were issued in an illegal and fraudulent manner."
-Dubai's state media office issued a report saying that it now believes there were 26 people involved in last month's assassination of Hamas military commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, and that the suspects travelled on passports from England, Ireland, Austria, France and Germany. This time last year, M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" was a top 5 hit in countries all around the world-including Israel. (As always, any excuse to watch that video.)

Finally, an assassin worthy of a poster. Most wanted indeed...

Not surprising. The Madrid bombings were clearly inspired by The Beastie Boys' Sure Shot.

Since I couldn't understand a word M.I.A sang when I first heard that song, I didn't quite realize what it was about. Yeah, the gunshots were pretty obvious, but what the hell does "summer murder" and "and tape you my name" mean? And why is she talking about cell-phones all of a sudden.

Then I read the lyrics. Holy shit! That song is awesome!

All this talk of burners and that cover of down in the hole she did... M.I.A. appears to have gotten all of her knowledge about criminal enterprise from watching The Wire. (Me too! We're twins!)

all that, and some stuff from the homeland, like this guy - wikipedia.org/wiki/Selvarasa_Pathmanathan

"He was believed to have had bank accounts in London, Frankfurt, Denmark, Athens and Australia and over 200 passports for his use."
