"Walk in the door and you are transported to another place and time... Ambiance? Hmm... the lack of ambiance is the ambiance, but in a good way," begins a review of Two Toms restaurant in Brooklyn. After a dinner there, on Friday night, two dozen firefighters, out for their annual dinner, beat four civilians to a pulp because one of the civilians spilled a drink. This was at The Salty Dog ("I love when vehicles are indoors, hence the half of firetruck that is inside.") Other reviews suggest that Two Tom's is not a good date restaurant. "The only thing is the neighborhood can seem sketchy so make sure you are not walking to/from the train late night if you are a girl or with a girl. Probably a good idea to leave them at home anyway because the place has zero aesthetic appeal and it can turn them off quickly if they are medium maintenance or higher."

This is a moment. The moment for Post/Yelp *synergy*.
If any of these public servants would like to relocate and turn their lives around, we may be looking for a Lieutenant Governor here in Illinois.
Sketchy neighborhood? Not at all! (as long as you don't piss off the mafia they're better than the cops at keeping the streets safe)
Ditto: Bay Ridge is not that sketchy, unless you're scared of city life in general.
Also, the fight took place at The Salty Dog, not 2 Toms.
YES! This is what Pat Kiernan told me this morning.
And also that it was one of the firefighters who spilled the drink.
Hey, the Awl totally has fact-checkers now! Paul Ford'll be psyched.
Started at the latter, ended at the former. The latter is the one on which I can comment.
OOH, sorry, early morning. Duly updated--NOW WITH MORE YELP!

If men would stop ordering the girls medium rare, the kitchen would cease to send them out.
/Blue rare.
"Edit" my ass!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the fight happened at the Salty Dog:
"Sources said the night began when a large group of firefighters met for an annual dinner at Two Toms Restaurant in Gowanus.
Afterward, up to 30 of them ended up at the Salty Dog, and began boozing in earnest..."
The fight was at a bar in Bay Ridge, not Two Toms, which is in a place called Gowanus. The fight took place at the equally unattractive fire-fighter theme bar Salty Dog.
Actually the article says they ate at Two Toms, but the beatdown took place later on, here (click thru to see a picture of a fireman!)

New York's Alright if You Like Saxophones
Two Toms stands wrongly implicated. THIS SLANDER WILL NOT STAND, AWL
HAHA. Yes, sorry. I cannot READ those New York Post stories. Am I getting stupider???
Also, from Yelp, on Ye Olde Salty? "This is THE local bar where the drunks looking to hook up converge around 1am. There's always a crowd, and a fight waiting to happen."
LOVE.
It's HAPPENING ALREADY!!!
I hope I'm not the only one eargerly awaiting the 20 fold repost of the security footage on Youtubesss.
Hey, I've got a quick question on the redesign: The comments with the blue-shaded backgrounds are the smart comments ... and the comments with no shading behind them are the not-so-smart ones. Do I have that right?
Well, they're meant to indicate threads. For instance, my comment here and yours are coupled together, because I am responding to you!
I don't find it completely intuitive but.
My backgrounds are gray. Is that because those comments are retarded?
I figured that ... I was just being a smart-ass. More like a not-so-smart-ass, actually.
Gray means you get a seat on the spaceship when the end-times come. Yay for us!
Um ... sorry misterpearce.
A firefighter theme bar? Department of Redundancy to investigate.
I am angry at lots of things today, but the referring to women as if we are strange and rare creatures you don't bring places, as if we are exotic dogs or similar, really pisses me off. We're 51% of the population, jerkoffs.
I don't know about angry but that bar is supposed to be a hook-up place. So ladies will have to get there somehow. Unless it's not for those kinds of hook-ups.
Meat hook-ups, maybe!
I live right down from that place! The neighborhood is totally 100% safe for ladies. It's just wedged between Carroll Gardens and Park Slope, so the ugliness of it is particularly noticable. We've never been to Two Toms because it's never open except when it is, and then it's often filled with men in track suits socializing. Or firemen.
Exactly. I am usually the first person to call out people feraking out about perfectly safe neighborhoods in NYC, but I want to point something out about the area that used to be considered Brooklyn's "Little Italy" waaay back in the day:
The stretch of blocks on President Street between 4th Avenue and Nevins Street is caught in a creepy NYC time warp. Seriously, I would recommend not walking down that block at night or even during the day on some days. Squatters in an old abandoned factory, SUVs filled with cops or guys in tracksuits who would just like to know what you are doing when you are walking?
mmmm 2 Tom's is the veal capital of Brooklyn.
