I Feel Bad About My Drinking And I Know Just What To Do About It

"Advertisements are capable of bringing forth feelings so unpleasant that we're compelled to eliminate them by whatever means possible."
-Indiana University marketing professor Adam Duhachek discusses a new study showing that PSAs using "guilt or shame to warn against alcohol abuse can actually have the reverse effect, spurring increased drinking among target audiences." And how! Just reading about this study makes me want a drink, like NOW. [Via]

has there been even one anti-smoking psa that even briefly mentioned how much healthier you feel after just a few days of no cigarettes? like, you know what, we're probably better off not mentioning the positive side of overcoming addiction: more finger amputations!

I'd like to feed Professor Ass Pucker to a grizzly bear. Saw he created the ads for this scientific study himself. I'll take a double bourbon right now.

Gef the Talking Mongoose

Whenever I see those talking-baby eTrade commercials on TV, I am indeed compelled to eliminate them by whatever means possible. I can only assume that eventually that's going to mean full Elvis-mode.

Industry funded PSA's are secretly psychologically tested to be as ridiculously counter-effective as possible. I piss my pants laughing at those "Talk to your kids about drinking. They do listen." ads.
