James Crowley, who arrested Henry Louis Gates, Jr., last summer, gave Gates the handcuffs with which he was restrained. Gates in turn donated them to the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian. And now that painful chapter of our nation's history has been closed.
What a shame that Henry Louis Gates, Jr. will have to die in order for his descendants to cry in amazement while he sits at a PBS dining room table and shows them these historical restraints. And what a moving story.

I take it the National Museum of Awkward Symbolic Gestures wasn't open that day so Gates went with his next option.
This calls for a beer.
