The Hilarious Apple Stock Dip

APPLYeah, that was from about 1:10 p.m. to about 1:30 p.m. I would say expect more starting now. UPDATE: Oh, nice rebound circa 2:30! Okay, not bad! I rescind some schadenfreude!

Mmmmmmm Apple Stock Dip

sailor (#396)

With prices starting at $499 for 16GB version without 3G going to $829 w/ 3G, expect that to go up.

This happens EVERY announcement. It's par for the course. But that bounce at the bottom is right when the tablet was confirmed.

TRUE.

But what happens when everyone realizes it's iGARBAGE?

kneetoe (#1,881)

They'll throw it away and buy another one?

HiredGoons (#603)

Seriously – this is not only a stupid device but a poor business decision. The niche market Steve Jobs is trying to fill is so narrow.

It's a little like an iPhone, a little like a laptop, but it doesn't do the best parts of either (but it's kind of like a Kindle!?).

The only people who are going to pay the amount of money that Apple will be charging for this is devout members of the Apple Cult and I doubt that market is big enough to warrant the time and money spent developing this silly little toy.

I hope they all know you shouldn't dispose of iPads in the toilet.

Even I hate it!

The rebound off Newton's head helped a little.

keisertroll (#1,117)

It didn't help that the Newton's slogan was "EAT UP MARTHA".

KarenUhOh (#19)

Tablet, capsule, or drip?

keisertroll (#1,117)

It's pretty hard to launch a new Apple product when there are basically Big Only Child. Who's that gal in leggings going to throw at? Steve Jobs?

evilfred (#2,351)

Apple is the only big tech company to consistently "get it". They understand that a new form factor (phone, tablet/netbook) requires a new style of user interface. The medium is the message! Shoehorning Windows into a netbook makes new sense. Plus they're the only ones that have figured out micropayments. They will (maybe) actually be the saviour of publishing?

Mindpowered (#948)

iDon't think so.

DoctorDisaster (#1,970)

Apple is the only big tech company to consistently have released the iPod, the iPhone, and the Apple II. Pretty much everything else in their corporate history can be filed under "frittering away brand equity."

I remember when Apple's BIG REVOLUTIONARY THING was a cube computer. I remember when Apple's BIG REVOLUTIONARY THING was a scooter. I am not surprised that their latest BIG REVOLUTIONARY THING is a tablet named after a tampon.

speaking of which, this was surprisingly prescient: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1BUH9eXy18

to recap: cliche, banality, cliche, non sequitur?, falsehood, wild speculation

brent_cox (#40)

Don't want – would replace things that don't need replacing.

HiredGoons (#603)

I like books.

brent_cox (#40)

Was thinking more this painted rock I use to keep the door from blowing closed.

HiredGoons (#603)

Also lap-desk.

brent_cox (#40)

Can one affix a bean-bag to the bottom of it?

HiredGoons (#603)

Important questions; inquiring minds, etc.

you'll need the iBeanbag with proprietary chip/docking port

HiredGoons (#603)

I'll wait for the 2nd generation iBeanbag; I hate those little white balls spilling out all time.

garge (#736)

But can it make a telephone call?

evilfred (#2,351)

Nope. Spec site says "data only": http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/

But you could probably use Google Voice's web app to make calls.

garge (#736)

I bet if you do that, an AT&T angel gets its wings clipped.

sbma44 (#2,565)

Google voice on mobile devices isn't VoIP (for various complicated reasons having to do with the slice of the mobile protocol apportioned to data, the actual call is still routed over cell networks). Might work on wifi, though! (Skype certainly will)

Ceiba_T_ (#3,000)

If only AT&T would ditch the "phone" part of my iPhone. $40/month for 6 minutes of calls a day.

Oh wow, just saw the price. I know it is Apple so there is always a substantial premium, but, with a price that high, comparing it to netbooks is more than a little disingenuous. Willing to give it some time and see what developers can do with it, but right now not enthused (also, name is WEAK).
