And Barack Obama will ask Congress (ask!) to repeal 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' in his speech tonight.

Want to get married or get equal rights/protection, The Gays? Fuck off. But dammit, Obama will fight (or, y'know, politely ask) for your right to go get killed dead in an Afghanistanian clusterfuck. What a guy!

sorry your heinous

Why is this a Congress decision and not a CINC decision?

I have heard that because Congress established DADT as a law, it can only be changed by another law? By comparison, the racial segregation that Truman ended with a pen was only a military policy, not actual U.S. legislation. But others who know more should perhaps chime in!

A theory is this: if it's an executive order, then it's reversible by the next Commander in Chief. If it's law, then that's (theoretically again) a lot more difficult to overturn.

I think there is also something to be said for pointing out: "Congress has a job they are supposed to be doing. Now, watch and see if they do it."

How about he's the mother fucking commander in chief, and as such, can instruct the legislative branch as to a priority of his. Such as, "Fucking knock off the bullshit and let the queers serve."

And [insert gay marriage rant here].

Milquetoast.

I expect nothing from his address to the joint session. As such, I expect I'll be pleased. (Apologies to Ben Harper.)
