"I think some directors make films because they want to hang out with movie stars and be part of Hollywood. They want to be a star themselves. I'm not interested in that at all."
-The adorable Neill Blomkamp, director of District 9, whose next film is not a sequel but does "take place 150 years from now."

Glad you posted this. Gives me another chance to talk about the Oscars. Ok, I'm worried that District 9 will not get a best picture nom. What if Lovely Bonez gets in there because it's more 'serious'. But I really thought this was one of the best movies of the year.
Don't worry: It probably won't get anything. But it's still a great movie. I mean, Oscars-shmoscars. As Spike Lee one lamented "Ordinary People" a film most people have never seen and don't care about won an Oscar in 1980. You know who lost? "Raging Bull", a film that is considered a classic, is taught in film schools and is a film people watch over again. That film got snubbed.
You know what will win something? "Up"... Because an animated film of an old man and a kid in a floating house with balloons warms America's hearts!
"Up" may get nominated for Best Picture this year, but it won't win because only the Japanese take animation seriously.
A real kid floating in a balloon however...
*(tugs shirt collar)
Lovely Bones sucked. So it might win.
Can it be argued that any movie taking place in the future is a sequel to the present?
It's called a Squeakquel now.
STOP IT!!! THIS WAS THE BANE OF MY WEEKEND!!!
*(gouges at eyes in an Oedipal fashion)
But what if said movie was released and then killed it's own grandfather... Makes you think!
A TAIL OF TWO FUTURE KITTIES.
I don't know, it would be cooler if he was a little more Hollywood?
"Look, it's like this: I've got eight District 9 prequels in the bag. You're either on board with this, Harvey, or I'm taking it to someone else... someone who wants to be a winner. Because make no mistake: by the time I'm halfway to District 8, the name Neill Blomkamp will be a household word in this town. That's Neill with two L's. And it's Kamp with a K, asshole."
Oh, he's all "I don't care about that stuff" now but give him a few years and he'll be all "So Brad said.." and "As I was telling George.." and doing a remake of 2001.
Christ, I JUST now saw District 9 and cannot believe Cameron doesn't cower in shame when he finally gets to see how one-upped he was by a rank newcomer EVEN WHEN IT CAME TO HIS ROBOT FIGHTING MACHINE ENDING
Did you love it?!
