An aftershock with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Haiti this morning, but don't worry: Lester Holt and his crew are fine.

This was centered in Gressier. Bad news.
Ugh. I read something yesterday by some woman staying in an all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic (I've done it so: kettle, black) worrying about the Haitians coming over and breaking in and taking the food, etc. and while a legitimate concern for one's safety is entirely justifiable, the dismissive and coddled tone she took made me a little stabby.
A DR all-inclusive? No one's gonna travel hundreds of miles for that food!
(Sorry.)
I KNOW. They have that terribly sweet European Ketchup!
My mum's down in the Dominican Republic this week too. She certainly fretted about the ethics of their holidaying there but, what are you going to do?
I just heard on the radio this morning that somebody here in Ottawa (or maybe MTL) has arranged a charter flight down to the DR for any Haitian who wants to go and look for relatives. For $25 each way! But Santa Domingo is still a long way from Haiti.
It's not the ethics of vacationing, I mean it's not like she's going to walk to Haiti and save a bunch of people, it was this particular woman fretting about the 'dark people' coming to loot and plunder, which was an unrealistic concern and frankly quite revealing.
