So, TMZ are evil, smirky shitheels for making sniggering soap-dropping comments, but it's okay for you to post what looks to me like a sniggering comment about this story because the subject used to fuck for money?
That may or may not be what you meant, but that's sure how it comes off.
I don't think it's particularly a good point, as actually it's called "false equivalence." ("A false equivalence fallacy occurs when someone falsely equates an act by one party as being equally egregious to that of another without taking into account the underlying differences which may make the comparison patently invalid.")
This story is sad and also to me slightly amusing, in that way that sad things can be.
But rest assured, cranky morning people: I am a long-time supporter of sex workers, if that makes you feel slightly better about the whole thing.
You're onto something but it should be directed at NBC. Why did that network run this story and not one about one of the millions of others who are losing a home? Because she used to fuck for money. This story is noteworthy because it a the video version of all of those page-view whoring slideshow galleries of girls in bikinis that newspapers use to pretend to tell a story while having an excuse to run skin. This segment could be inserted into the film Idiocracy and not stick out at all, and THAT is why it is interesting.
I think the first poster really was just commenting (rightly or wrongly) on a perceived lack of sensitivity vis a vis another issue I don't think this becomes a "false equivalence" when talking about feelings or again perceptions, as corny as that sounds. Abe you are right, I'm a camera man down in D.C. and I spent a while Freelancing, sometimes for nets sometimes for cable channels and in that short time it became clear to me just how exploitive and manipulative nearly all off the "reality" t.v. is, this of course includes the news nets. At least the ones I've gone out for.
They're just ripping off that Susan Faludi book, right? "Stiffed"? It apparently (God knows I didn't read it) had a chapter about a male porn star who couldn't... couldn't something. Much-blathered-about at the time.
She should take a few notes from Christopher Reeve's book. I think it's called, "How I Made a Living Out of Exploiting the Fact That I Fell Off of a Horse."

Good morning!

Some of my best friends are sex workers.

Sorry I didn't comment on this earlier, I was looking for NSFW pictures at HuffPo.
Looks a bit like Moe Tkacik.
Natan, this would be a fine time to go and move rubble in Haiti.
I've made a more constructive comment below. And now I am off to Haiti.
Not sure what you meant, but I took the "bending over backward" as the cause of the "black mark" on her forehead.

was it health insurance?
Sheesh. Where are the fact-checkers at The Awl? Nikki Nova isn't a porn star, she's a nude model.
