Won't You Please Take Our Tiny Reader Survey?

Hello Awl readers! This is David Cho, "business guy" of The Awl, here to ask a favor of you. We currently need a little information about who you are, so we've put together this small little survey (so small!) that asks a few questions about you and your entertainment-consuming habits. If you wouldn't mind clicking this link and taking about 45 seconds to answer the survey as honestly as possible, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks! Here is another link for the survey! As always, if you have any questions, drop us a line.

How about, at least, the possibility of a prize!

Bribe me, dammit!

Choire Sicha

Heh. What would a prize for this be? How about: ONE HUG, if I see you on the street. (Side-hugs only; offer void on some blocks.)

BardCollege

what is a side hug?

SIGH. FIXING! Please hold. SOrry!

Since I'm... er... my friend who wants to take the survey is over 40, there's no place for my friend to categorize herself!

Man, nothing like a survey to show me how generic I am. Can't you at least ask "left or right handed?" so I can feel a little special?

jolie
jolie (#16)

I would, but I think my answers will hurt more than they help? (I don't own a TV? The last movie I saw in the theater was Batman Whatevers? I pretty much only read The Awl and Philippa Gregory novels? Hm. Perhaps I need to work on some 2010 resolutions in the form of cultural literacy?)

"Favorite TV Shows: Batman, Batman: The Animated Series."

genevieveyorke

SHIT! I forgot to add Batman: The Animated Series. Also, finger crossies for getting that from my Amazon Wishlist. (I tell everyone this story, but) I recently realized Batman: The Animated Series was the Batman-next-door that had been there all along, ever since childhood, while I was off searching for my Dark Knight in shining armor.

Matt
Matt (#26)

Oh, it is certainly one of the greatest characterizations of Bruce and his pals in any medium, and maybe the greatest TV show to ever air, ever. The pacing, the tone, the look, the plots, the dialogue. It is coolly, subtly iconic. Maybe the most intelligent thing that's ever been done with a dude in spandex that doesn't involve Grant Morrison.

HiredGoons

Mindpowered
Mindpowered (#948)

Hi. That made me feel really old sleazy and rich in a queasy Glengarry Glenross.

Can we squeeze everyone under 30, under 40k and not into one category?

(It's postal code [I know] for Canadians btw)

Bittersweet
Bittersweet (#765)

Why does size of company look like ages? I chose '26+' because my employer has 100K+ minions, but it might not be quite as descriptive/helpful as you'd like.

tralafel
tralafel (#1,221)

I assumed it meant inches.

I'm sorry, I didn't notice the "as honestly as possible" request when I took the survey. Can you just change the My Favorite TV Shows answer from, "I like to watch Manimal and The Andy Griffith Show at the same time while hitting the Last Channel button over and over again really fast because with the gin it gives me a head rush" to "I like to watch Manimal and The Andy Griffith Show at the same time while hitting the Last Channel button over and over again really fast because with the gin and ether it gives me a head rush." Guess you really caught me out on the ether thing. Well played.

sorry your heinous

Your honesty is refreshing :)

SweetnessIWasOnlyJoking

I answered as honestly as possible which, it turns out, is pretty honestly! But you did make me hate myself a bit.

HelloTitty
HelloTitty (#830)

I would be happy to be honest if you fix the age categories and the company size categories. Sheesh.

#56
#56 (#56)

I'm old and I'm broke. Are you happy? Why don't you ask for my BMI while you're at it?

SweetnessIWasOnlyJoking

BMI is a number - they would just have done range: Gorgeously Thin
Thin Enough for blogging purposes
Plump but in a cute way
Too much cheese on this latke
Governor of New Jersey.

kneetoe
kneetoe (#1,881)

Maybe you shouldn't watch so much tv.

#56
#56 (#56)

why? does it make people neurotic?

myfanwy
myfanwy (#1,124)

For favourite tv shows, I only put ones that are currently on air, as my loving Arrested Development doesn't help anyone (besides myself).

SweetnessIWasOnlyJoking

I put Arrested Development for two reasons: 1) Loyalty; 2) The awl no doubt has sophisticated "if he/she likes this, he/she will that like" analytic techniques to feed me Arrested Develoment-appropriate advertising.

libmas
libmas (#231)

Yah, I stuck with what's currently on air as well, and felt a little sad about it. What I can't figure out is why there's no question about drinking habits/brands of choice

myfanwy
myfanwy (#1,124)

You can extrapolate a lot about people depending on whether or not they like Arrested Development.

Neopythia
Neopythia (#353)

I feel like I should be able to go back and edit my response to include Arrested Development. I still watch it on dvd. Does that help at all?

kitten_witawip

I put Wonderfalls. I watch that on dvd.

rj77
rj77 (#210)

Dammit, I knew I would forget one. And I forgot to put MST3K.

I watch WAY too much TV.

sorry your heinous

I should have read this thread first, because I forgot a good 4 shows I really like. I basically just put what I'm currently plowing through on DVR and Netflix stream instantly

i love that the employment question bothers to differentiate between unemployed and freelanceâ€"so charming!

formerly it takes a lot etc.

I admitted that I am Canadian and one of my favorite shows is Invasion. Sorry. I know that's gonna cost you.

PS Watching Invasion last night and who do I see as a sexy alienish violent vixen? Our very own Peggy from Madmen!

And why isn't there a "my income varies depending on the kindness of strangers" option??????

Plus, my corporation has only 1 employee. New York State tells me that's not freelancing. *sob*

KarenUhOh

I don't think I got many of them right.

Tulletilsynet

We were all supposed to choose a zip code that does not exceed our household income, otherwise the Awl is going to lose some major corporate sponsors.

LondonLee
LondonLee (#922)

Happy to find that I'm apparently rich and in The Awl's top earning bracket.

No you can't have any fucking money, peasants.

Choire Sicha

I know, I LOL'd at the income brackets. Like, this is NYC, honey. 100K? Whatever.

sorry your heinous

Hopefully you will learn from this survey, we're not all in NYC :)

kneetoe
kneetoe (#1,881)

That's why they ask for zip code: if you're not from NYC, your results are thrown out. Kinda like when you give blood but have hep c.

sorry your heinous

oh so now you don't want my blood either? wtf internet

(do not actually have hep c)

garge
garge (#736)

Do they just throw out your blood, or do they also tell you you have it? I thought I could perhaps save some $$ on tests by just donating blood ..

I need an option for household income of $500k+ and number of employees in my company of more than 200,000. Plus no one cares what my favorite movies are? Just TV shows?

formerly it takes a lot etc.

They want to advertise movies to you on your favorite TV shows. They will tell you what movies you like!
