More than ten percent of Americans rely on food stamps. Tina Contraeras is one of them: "Unemployed and on disability benefits, Contraeras, 45, has custody of her grandchildren, ages 2 and 3. She has resorted to circling the first of the month on her calendar so that when her grandchildren are hungry, she can count down the days until they can return to the grocery store.
'I have to make a game out of it for the kids,' she said." [Via]

This makes me fall dumb with shame. And the only real thing I can do is get a bagful of canned food on the way home and take it to the local shelter. Gonna have to be enough.
Where do I post a "FAIL" comment big enough for Western civilization?
(comment about hiring plane & banner)

+67 for Supertramp reference.
Explain it to me again. Why are we NOT killing the rich?
Religion; television. Unfortunately I have neither.
Said it before, will say it again: Priority One in America. Feed and house every citizen. I really don't give a hang what else anyone feels is "important" use of our tax dollars: I really don't understand what would be more important.
"I have to make a game out of it for the kids,"
I REALLY MIGHT FUCKING START CRYING RIGHT NOW. FUCK FUCK FUCK MOTHERFUCKING FUCK FUCK!!!
but at least she's free.
FUCK!
They should do a cycle of Survivor. Except the players should be unemployed, live in a ghetto on disability and food stamps.
My coworker's best friend is supporting 5 kids on foodstamps. My coworker gets a call from this woman every 28th and 13th of the month like clockwork, asking to borrow money. The older kids are literally dealing drugs so they can buy groceries for the younger ones.
It is an incredibly hard and fucked up world.
Bullshit calling. I LOVE food stamps and welfare, I am FOR food stamps and welfare, there should definitely be more food stamps and welfare, but there is no way she is running through her food unless she is absolutely nuts and buying crazy shit instead of cooking. My sister gets $600 a month for her family of four; call it an even $100 a week for a family of three. YOU CAN EAT ON THAT, nicely!
