Kinda cool: "Octopuses have been observed carrying coconut shells in what researchers claim is the first recorded example of tool use in invertebrates."

I, of course, thought this was about Australian inebriates.
Unlike their geographically coterminous invertebrates, Australian inebriates do not have to step up their game. They are already at the top of it.
Is it too much to hope for both?
Ok, so giant asian carp and coconut-shell-wielding octopi. Any other maritime creatures want to audition for the role of "Chief Bringer of the Apocalypse"?
I'm pretty sure Cthulthu has that role nailed down.
Stuff like this made me stop eating octopus a few years ago.
Yip yip yip yip! RA DI O. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qxWGr8VhzQ
KINDA cool? More like WAY!
Well start again, Spaceman--can't you see they're gaining on us!?!
"I wish I were a turtle."
In the UK, the octopus is officially classified as an "honorary vertebrate," so either they have a really good lobby (octopuses) or I don't understand them at all (the British).
OMG I love your screen name!!!
*plotz!*
You know for having eight arms you'd think it could have figured out tool use a long time ago.
Spineless, just spineless.
They use them to beat the crap out of other octopuses.
Great. I see they're already training for 2012, which is apparently going to be a Death-By-Cephalopod Fest.
Australian? You sure they're not African or European? And what's their water speed velocity?
