What Racist Thing Did Obama Say?
So the space-filling controversy of this week is whether or not Rupert Murdoch thinks the President is a racist. Asked in an interview about Glenn Beck's contention that Obama hates whitey, the News Corp. chair said that Obama "did make a very racist comment about blacks and whites and so on, which he said in his campaign he would be completely above. And that was something which perhaps shouldn't have been said about the President, but if you actually assess what he was talking about, [Beck] was right." Here's my question: What exactly was the "very racist comment" Obama made? Cursory Googling is no help, and if I wanted to spend hours sifting through Media Matters I would have already moved to Berkeley and started listening to NPR and worrying about whether or not my coffee was harvested ethically and shit. Which is to say, no. HuffPo seems to think it had something to do with the Henry Louis Gates arrest, but I am not fully convinced. Any ideas?

I think it was "So really the question is: why does Twitter get so white and boring during the day? Don't white people do anything at work?"
The answer to that question is easy. No. No we don't.
(I've explained it in my comment on your license plate post.)
(what happened to the comments on that page)
GREMLINS. It is now open for all your automotive identification tag aesthetics needs.

It was probably some editorial cartoon.

Having lived in Berkeley and now Brooklyn, I can safely say you can accomplish that much closer to home.
Yeah, but who wants to be a cold-weather hippie?
It was "White people are potential humans… they haven’t evolved yet." Either that or when he said "the officer acted stupidly." Take your pick.
I think it was when he pulled out the old "once you go black you never go back" line. But the context was a press conference where he was asked about all white country clubs, so I don't think it was that big of a deal.
It's because he has the nerve to think he can live in the White House.
Yeah, uppity Presidents are the worst.
Just goes to show you what happens when you don't know your place.
Or even own property at all, for that matter.
Something about how some of his best friends are white people — you know what he means.
i think it was the "typical white person" comment, when he was describing his grandmother.
it's true though! all white people look alike.
So he's half-racist?
EXACTLY.
To many rich white people, it is racism to suggest that race-based discrimination still occurs. To these people, it's especially racist to suggest that the government has a role in the elimination of this discrimination. In this context, Obama says racist shit all the time. We're supposed to be post-racial, right? That means race should never be mentioned.
Was it the time he praised Rush Limburger as "articulate" and "one of our better white folks"?
Was it when he called Murdoch an evil old honky?
"I love Chinks"?
