The Future of Journalism: Ira Stoll's New Business Model
Did you know that former New York Sun vice president Ira Stoll is back in business? He is running a website with the impressive name The Future of Capitalism. It launched two months ago, and where have we been on this important news? What is most wonderful is his business model. This man has a plan! In it, the more money you give, the more influence you have. Ta da, capitalism and the future of it! For instance, for $250K? You will "support a reporter to cover the Federal Reserve, Treasury, Congress, White House, or other beat designated by the sponsor in consultation with the editor." Hoo boy. Though! For just $75K a year, you get to call and email Ira Stoll anytime you want, night or day. Which, you know, I'm pretty sure we could do that for free? For now at least. Soon he will be so rich and powerful that he will not accept our free phone calls and emails.

Needs the photo of his staff with distended bellies.
* Previews of bear video's and the latest updates on Balk's chest pain.
* Morning wake-up call from Choire (on days when he's up early enough) and unlimited X-mass card photoshopping.
* The full theawl.com benefit package of a theawl.com 'hang in there cat' Cat t-shirt.
Pretty much I do not think I can monetize contact with any of us here in any way?
I just assumed this website was a drug front.
This business model is far more sound than the one for The New York Sun (RIP).
um also? Since when does it take $250K (or even $150K?) to support a reporter in DC? I'm pretty sure I could hire 3 reporters and a small research staff for that money.
The future of capitalism: $200K in Ira Stoll's pocket; $50K in the reporter's.
"The full FutureOfCapitalism.com benefit package of a FutureOfCapitalism.com t-shirt, tote-bag, coffee mug, umbrella, bow tie, and regular neck-tie, and half a key of cocaine."
Just rolls right off the tongue, doesn't it?
So if I buy myself a reporter, does that mean he will write anything I tell him/her to?
He'd probably hate it if you called and told him that Josh Marshall has already executed a similar idea in an infinitely superior fashion.
