Not only does she not understand the theory of evolution, but she must be some kind of theological visionary because I'm completely confused by this line:

"I believed we came about through a random process, but were created by God."

How is she differentiating coming about and creation? Is she saying that God is random, or, to quote Merriam Webster "lacking a definite plan, purpose, or pattern".

Does this mean believes in a cruel and spiteful God, or just a God like George W. Bush?

I'm inclined to the latter.

On the Black Eyed Peas thing, are you asking us to explain their popularity among Americans in general? Or do you want us to explain why Sarah Palin enjoys a band that features a woman singer, who though lovely, is reputed to have once done so much meth before a concert that she urinated on herself onstage?

In answer to the second question, I'd point to Rudy's analysis of the Palin book. Rudy's account of her prose reminds me of Orwell's essay about good writing vs bad writing. Bad writing, like Palin's, results from cobbling together phrases, not words. So we get mixed nonsense metaphors and rhetorical trains derailed to varying degrees.

I'd argue that the Black Eyed Peas do the same thing in their songs. Listen to their current hit, "Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night." Harmonically, thematically, melotically, it's just a mash of goodtime cliches. There's no meaning on deep level, no cohesion or vision. It's just a hash. Of course Sarah loves it. And of course millions of Americans do too.
