John J. O’Connor, 1933-2009
John J. O'Connor, television critic for the New York Times for more than a quarter of a century, has died at the age of 76. O'Connor was a sharp, bracing critic, and anyone who ever heard his stentorian delivery on WQXR could feel the sting of his icy judgments. His, for whatever reason, was the first byline I ever learned. I'm sorry to see him go.
And the other John J. O'Connor (Sandy D's hubby) died last Wednesday. What are the odds of that?
