How Many People Voted On Your Block?

by Choire posted @11:11 AM

East Village Say What? This awesome map aggregates all the voter data and breaks it down block by block, across the city. Mmm, data. (Sadly we have to wait some time for the Board of Elections to put together all the votes for the other candidates, so we can see how many votes Bernie Goetz and Charles Barron got!) So, 142 people voted on The Awl office's block—with fewer than 2/5ths of them voting for Bloomberg.

I like knowing where you are. I also like knowing that I'm SUPER SMART because I totally already knew that's where your offices are located, Future Victims.

Hmm…everyone we$t of Broadway voted Bloomberg. Surprise, surprise.

/my block voted Thompson (go 6th St!)

Does NYC have a polling place on each block?

The Henry Hudson Parkway went for Bloomberg?

Why is there one voter in Flushing Meadows park?

    I'm obsessed with this map…

Only 17 people voted on the block at 1st/A & 11th/12th. I wonder if that was a Rev. Bill stronghold.

This map is like a wet dream. The things that are capable in campaigning expand exponentially with it. Talk about targeted messaging! Also, love that Greenwood Cemetery (plus 3 blocks) has 166 votes. Tammany Hall, heyyy

    /political junkie off

Interesting results in Williamsburg. I wonder if the level of Bloomberg support is indicative of hipsters-showing-true-colors or old-school-Italian-holdouts.

As someone pointed out somewhere yesterday, hipsters probably don't vote. What I find very interesting is that much of the Bronx, including significant parts of the South Bronx, voted much heavier for Bloomberg this year than in 2005. The coverage I've seen has suggested otherwise.

Bizarre. People in the buildings north of me are in a different district, and the people south or me are in yet another, and the buildings across the street are in yet a third. Jerrymandering much?
