When I was at this memorial, the symmetry of the place is what first grabs you. And you think what a neat picture this would make. I have hundreds from that day: endless rows of uneven thick grey slabs. But what's so genius about the design of this thing is that you walk through it like a cemetery and you can't see above or beyond the slabs directly in front of you. So you have this actual physical sensation of being trapped and blinded. It's terror inducing. Even young kids who didn't know where the fuck they were, would approach the memorial with a cavalier sense of fun (hopping from one slab to the next) but eventually when they walked through it, you could sense how unnerved they were, even as children.
