'Harry Brown' Looks Kickass

by Balk posted @1:50 PM

The geriatric revenge picture Harry Brown opens in the UK today. BlackBook calls it Michael Caine's "Gran Torino moment." The Guardian declares, "What a tremendous role for Caine. I can't imagine anyone else carrying it off." Alex Balk says, "Oh, yes, please, bring it on." But then I'm a huge fan of the original Get Carter. The Samuel Goldwyn Company will distribute it here in the states, and ohmygodIamsothere.

It starts off looking all Gran Torino but ends up more like Death Wish. I hope I'm wrong.

Was there another Get Carter? When will people learn?

What was one one generation's fears and martyrdom fantasies projected onscreen (Death Wish etc.) are now another's (This, Taken, Torino). This, as the previous ones, is basically a wank film for the Glenn Beck Fox News Lou Dobbs demographic of increasingly elderly whose tea party revolution happens in both their dreams and their colostomy bags. Hey, wait a minute, it's the SAME population's fantasy 30 years later!

An A-list version of John Cena's The Marine.

For a split second when I read the title I thought they were adding Michael Caine to the latest Harry Potter movie.
