Garbage New Trailer for 'The Road' is Insanely 'Braveheart'

by Choire posted @12:30 PM

This is a very weird new trailer for The Road, which gets worse and worse as it goes on, what with the increasingly swelling music and the way it looks like Titanic meets 2012. Obviously we will be discussing this movie quite a bit soon enough, when you have all had a chance to see it, but I can definitely assure you this trailer does a disservice to the movie, by fronting what are the fairly few wrong impulses in the film. The book was antiseptic; this trailer portrays the film as a lush, silly weeper.

I have only one hope for this movie: that the nature of the apocalyptic event is explained. It's impossible to tell if the father is doing the right thing and ensuring his son's survival, or if he'd be better off shooting the boy in the head on page one.

(disclaimer) I'm the person who didn't understand why in "Snakes on a Plane" they didn't simply turn off the heat and reduce the snakes to immobility or death.

It's an allegory for Christ's sake. The point is that you don't know what's going on. You probably were pissed that Vladimir and Estragon never met Godot.

The nature of the apocalyptic event is human vainglory. The book explains that, you don't need to wait for the movie.

I understand that mankind's hubris led to the fall of civilization, but I meant in terms of a "scientific" explanation. Was it a nuclear holocaust? Some sort of global-warming type environmental disaster? Is the situation actually hopeless?

I really enjoyed the book, but it was hard for me to gauge the father's motivations and character without knowing the extent of the situation they were in. I realize that wasn't really the point, but I'm a huge nerd. For me, it took away from the story.

I'm told the Taco Bell product placement is woven quite seamlessly into the narrative.

Oh what. . .Nick Cave is just too inaccessible for movie trailers?

I haven't read the book (but it's on the ever-growing list!), but giggle when I imagine the man behind No Country doing a lush, silly weeper.

Where did this trailer premiere? Lifetime? I feel like this is the cut designed to lure my Mom into the theater because she thinks Viggo is hot.

Those bells are lifted straight from Horner's soundtrack to 'Glory.' Also, this is the worst trailer ever made. Worse than the trailer for 'Gooby.'
