Actually, I think an airport is exactly the kind of place that could drive people (men only, in this case, I suppose) to the kind of existential despair that might make them consider the priesthood.

Great post, Amy. Love the drawings, as always. And I never realized how pervasive the smell of leaf mold is in New England until I go somewhere else and miss it.

This has really brightened what already promises to be a fairly dismal day. I'm going to try to see the rest of it in nicely textured, funny drawings.

This is the second Cinnabon reference in a week or so - product placement, Choire? Perhaps a bit of familial nepotism?

I haven't been there in years, but I remember the shades of tan and the carpet.

Other than airports in post-soviet shitholes, Sky Harbor is the only one I can think of that actually reflects something true about the atmosphere of place it serves. But in a good way.

Go to Sky Harbor all the time. I'm sorry, but I like PHX.

Could I commission a drawing of that byplane hanging in the rocky escalator lobby?

Cinabon needs to buy some advertising space on the Awl.

Are these drawings done with colored pencil? It's pretty incredible how well the texture translates through, you know, THE WEB.

I've not been to Sky Harbor International in years but I recognized the carpet straightaway, even before reading the caption. That really is a brown airport, isn't it?
