Ah... but if it's in say gold bars, or better yet HEU pellets, then it is most definitely plunging.

No body of aggregated wealth "plunges" down to $26 billion. Anywhere above--I don't know, ten million?--it's "wafting," I don't care how fast it goes.

Hey cool Harpers linked to this! I think unfortunately this set of problems is not isolated to Harvard or even the other ivies; almost all good schools seem at some level corrupt. Boards of regents at UC, overly paid administrators, partnerships with industry that end up selling out the public nature of research. Also: legacy admission rates. Football.

When I was my lesser Ivy university, I took advantage of my meal plan's hot breakfast opportunity for exactly one semester until I had the "wait a minute, I can schedule all my classes for 11 am and later?" epiphany, and I imagine this is true even for most of those children-of-greater-priviledge at Harvard. When cutbacks start affecting the availability of coffee and fried cheese at 2 am -- that's when the riots start.

It would be hilarious, if it weren't for all the lost jobs and the fact that Larry Summers and the rest of these wizards of finance have failed so dramatically upward. Which is a nice parable for the life trajectory of more than one Harvard student, like enough.

I hate to be that guy, but I've been reading some Roman history recently: isn't a Tribune - by definition - a representative of us plebs? The elites have their own officers.
