New Video: Justice And Lenny Kravitz "Let Love Rule"
Life has been good to Lenny Kravitz. Despite sucking terribly, he's been able to make lots of money, have sex with women like Lisa Bonet, Nicole Kidman, and Adriana Lima, and island-hop the Mediterranean on yachts. I guess he's made his contribution, by teaching us a lesson about the essential unfairness of everything. So that's cool. Anyway, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his 1989 debut album, Let Love Rule, he hired the French production team Justice to make a dance remix its title track. The song still sucks. But the video is actually kind of fun! Says Stereogum: "the tongue-in-cheek Keith Schofield-directed video is … smart and entertaining. A first for a Kravitz-related project? Just kidding: Love is gentle as a rose. And love can conquer any war."

Derivative and sucky Lenny Kravitz always struck me as a guy with a guitar and the looks posing as a rock star. He's impersonating Jimmy and Prince Light and we are all trapped in his unimaginative imagination. I keep wanting to say, Cassandra-like: "Lenny Kravitz not a real rock star, he's just fooling you!"
But the sucky illusion that he's projecting is just too vivid.
"Prince Light" ™
Really? I just always saw him as kinda fun and harmless.
The Gap commercial with SJP was harmless?
A formerly blocked trauma.
Well, as harmless as, say, a Victoria Secret commercial or a Luis Vuitton bag ad… Or an exclusive deal with wal-mart or…. while derivative at least he didn't PRETEND to be above a Gap commercial.
that video is about as meta as it gets…
Christ, I love every square inch and note of this.
Yeah, I thought it was fun.
Dear Dave Bry,
As a pretty person, I resent your resentment. We don't have to be as talented or hard-working as you. We can even turn sexless names like "Lenny" into something that our sex-partners want to scream while their toes curl.
Don't hate,
Pretty Person
I thought that might be it. Thanks.
The video was awesome! Music videos need more love, or more talented people loving them, because unless they get Big on the Internet, they're worth virtually nothing anymore (and that's a crapshoot). But why does Justice have to add the exact same sound and note-grind to everything they touch? Is there only one mixing board in France? Do not get.
The original song is wonderful.
That is right about music videos. They've lost their MTV. They need more TLC.
Yummy.
it's no november rain.
