Ouch: "tedious, overstuffed;" "a lot of pompous hot air;" "pretentiously – and clumsily;" "insipid, cartoon;" "a strangely detached and lackadaisical production that sorely tries the reader's patience;" "annoying and tiresome;" "lame and unsatisfying...." Michiko Kakutani is not a fan of the new Jonathan Lethem novel.

MK's primary criterion:
Not enuf limnin'?
It's a lemon.
"Hot" - Michiko Kakutani The New York Times
"Such verve..." -Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
"Marijuana-fueled..." Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times
"Terribly significant..."
Here, I'll try one:
"a must-read for Portfolio Magazine subscribers everywhere"?
Hehe.
I (and now probably Jonathan Lethem) wish that all of literate America would wake up tomorrow NOT CARING about Michiko Kakutani.
Use of "lame" as adjective in MK's review makes it sound like she wrote the thing as a Facebook status update.
