Oh, good morning! As The Awl's designated representative of the Italian-American community it falls upon me to wish you all a very happy Columbus Day. We've got lots of exciting festivities and events planned to celebrate the event, if you consider a "half day" to be exciting, which we sure as hell do. Anyway, while we're getting stuff together, why don't you take a look at this piece from yesterday's Times Styles section-I know-which overcomes a bit of overwriting to emerge as as a genuinely heartbreaking essay. And do send us anything exciting that passes through your browser this morning; you know what I'm taking about.

That is very well written. I have to wonder though what it is about "Daddy Man" writing were some seemingly-abhorrent revelation by a dad is taken as deep observation of men's nature as fathers... like how Moneyball author Michael Lewis admitted the "ugly truth" that he wasn't immediately attached to his child at birth.
You know, I got my first full 8 hours of sleep last night in a about a month.
Making me read that sucked all the pleasure out of this accomplishment. Lucky for you, I will not write a long-winded ode to this disaster.
I will, however, urge you to follow your pizza-bagel nourished gut and take the rest of the day off before you do any more damage.
Um, Leif Erickson Day was Wednesday?
Sorry, Erikson. Don't want to confuse anyone!
We didn't KNOW the blankets had smallpox! Gift-Horse!?!?!
Here's what passed through my browser this morning.
