Who is BMW trying to kid with that latest commercial for their "advanced diesel" technology, which they run at least every 6 minutes on, for one example, MNSBC? "Americans are always finding ways to be more responsible"??? First of all, bullshit. We are not. Americans do everything we can to avoid responsibility, and we know it. We still haven't ratified the Kyoto agreement, have we? Why not? Ask India and China. Secondly, BMW is telling us this? The German company, BMW? Don't blow diesel fumes up our ass. We know you, Germany. You are a world leader in green energy programs. You may like our crime fighters and our lifeguards and our rock stars. But you definitely don't think Americans are "responsible." So you can save it.

They do speak the truth about our large American penises.
Indeed. They dropped the "Ultimate Driving Machine" slogan here in 2006.
That guy was on The Daily Show many a moon ago. Worst agent ever.
This guy is annoying. I thought so last night when I saw the add. He needs to go into the locked room for annoying people along with Glenn Beck, Kathie Lee Gifford...wait there are more.
Gary Shandling.
The 'jackpot' guy on the Pizza Hut ads.
Is that Brian Unger? If so, what the fuck happened to his face?
When I first saw this ad, I would've sworn it was Perry Farrell shilling for BMW.
Yes, that is Brian Unger, he was on the Daily Show, but now he just pisses me off. These ads are horrible. In fact, he was on Always Sunny in Philadelphia last night, too, reprising a role and I found myself hating him on that. I mostly blame these ads.
The Ungpocalypse is at hand. Those ads are the only thing spoiling the immaculate perfection that is the Mad Men.
BMW needs to compete for all the annoying, responsible people who drive Priuses (Prii?), but secretly want to drive BMWs ... this is perfect advertising strategy. Bravo.
Agree.
The GM commercial with their new CEO is also very, very bad.
Good God yes. When will they realize that showing rich white men is not a good strategy.
He reminds me of those animatronic president exhibits at museums. Super creepy.
Dave, you don;t watch enough football. This would be the least annoying auto ad if only because it was QUIET AND DIDN'T PUT THE VOLUME UP TO 1000000000000 AT COMMERCIAL BREAKS. Have you seen the Dennis Leary F150 commercials where he's basically yelling at you? Or those Ram commercials where they put the truck through something off Ninja Challenge with shit exploding? Yeah, this is annoying. But like a self-righteous Gawker site post, it's still better than many of the alternatives.
It seems that MOST commercials up the volume just enough to annoy and catch your attention.
Dennis Leary could sell me a donkey cart & I'd still...watch the ad.
There's also some Bank of America ad (I think) that goes on about how Americans love to save things (meaning money but also implying old shit too) which is obviously complete bollocks because if Americans loved saving they wouldn't be up to their tits in debt.
Don't get me started on the GM commercial with the new CEO. It's like "Hi, I'm the CEO of GM. Remember how the government had to bail us out and then they forced out the old guy?"
is there anything more responsible then burning leaded diesel fuel?
Admittedly, I'm pretty ignorant about emissions (heh), but isn't the whole "environmentally-conscious diesel" thing kind of a line of horseshit? Because that's what been bothering me most about these ads.
I'm actually curious though - does anybody know what the story is with biodiesel vs. regular diesel vs. unleaded vs. hybrids? I realize the answer can depend on which lobbyist bought you a house last week, but anyone have some no-bs insight?
I used to have a diesel VW and once drove from North Carolina to Boston on a single tank of gas. No idea how many glaciers I melted on the way though.
i think its up there with "clean coal technology"
i guess i dont really know either though. now i'm really curious.
These guys are selling a product but they do have a chart

Well, the diesel jettas for market in the US are said to get extreme (cough) gas mileage, like well into the 40s. so in tat respect they are "greener." Biodiesel is whole different animal and technically is illegal. My brother converted an 85 diesel Mercedes to run on biodiesel (discarded cooking oil from fry machines) so he technically pays $0 for fuel (though he does have to pick it up and filter it and having helped with this I can say it's a pain in the ass). I'm not sure about the new diesels but almost any old diesel engine can run on biodiesel.
Shit, I thought I was in the smart room. I saw this about a month ago and immediately recognized it as farce. They even got a comedian to represent. You didn't actually take any of his schpeil seriously, did you? You DID? Ho, ha, hee hee, ha, ha, ho. Then the joke is even bigger. IT'S BMW, folks. They don't give a crap about anything other than selling some fine ass cars. Watch the commercial again. Come on, white cars, on a white background? I cracked up when I saw this; IT IS FUNNY. Not as funny as that lucifer dude from Constantine unpimping your ride (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv157ZIInUk), but still, funny. And it's so similar; watch all the way to the end of the VW ad; see? White background, white car, even white lab coats. IT'S SATIRE FOLKS, PICK UP A FUCKING BOOK!
Maybe this passes for meta-humor... in Germany. You know, nihilists and all...
Touch my monkey.
IT'S A COMMERCIAL, SOCRATES. PICK UP A FUCKING REMOTE!
