Silvio Berlusconi Not A Fan Of Silvio Berlusconi Documentary

Here's the (NSFW, particularly if you live in a country that doesn't usually show boobies on TV) trailer for Videocracy, a new documentary about Italian Prime Minister Sergio Berlusconi's control of the media and its deleterious effects on that country. Italy's national network RAI banned the clip, contending that it insulted the premier, but the attempt to squelch promotion of the film had the opposite result: Interest in the film has soared, doubling the number of theaters that have requested prints. The movie debuts at the Venice Film Festival today. An early review:

The documentary doesn't explore the murky world of Berlusconi's love life. There are no interviews with embittered lovers or salacious speculation about his marriage and sometimes turbulent relationship with his children. Instead, it focuses on the culture that Berlusconi has created around him. It is a culture of startling superficiality in which looking good on TV is the be-all and end-all.
There is some good news for Berlusconi, though. The editor of the Catholic newspaper recently attacked by a Berlusconi family publication has resigned; steadfast Berlusconi foe the Economist suggests that the Prime Minister may not be outmatched in his battle with the Vatican after all.

If this guy ever tires of the heady perfumes of supreme power, I'm thinking villain in a James Bond picture. Directed by David Lynch.
