I guess this is, what, balance? "Posters portraying President Obama as a witch doctor may be racist, organizers of Tea Party protests say, but they reflect anger about where he is leading the country." But it turns out that we live in a world where acknowledging racism apparently devalues the seriousness of acknowledging racism, so the next time you see something that is racist, do not say anything about it and it will magically stop being racist. And anyway, white people are perfectly happy to pay black people to cook for them and watch their entertainers perform, so everything's fine! Or something. I'm glad we're having a rational and honest conversation about all of this.

Wait... so is this racist or satirical?

Brooks:
"Some have argued that tea party slogans like 'I Want My Country Back' are code words for white supremacy. Others say incivility on Capitol Hill is magnified by Obama’s dark skin."
Brooks' strawmen aren't very smart, are they?
There are two main strains of racism: quiet exclusion and socio-economic relegation; and out-front, loud n' proud racism.
I suspect a majority of the people who can be bothered to turn up at these events fall into the latter camp, as does my uncle. They are racist and don't care who knows it, because they think they are right.
and you will never ever reach that latter camp so trying to "change" them is a lost cause. Better to expose and marginalize them through public opinion which, BTW, worked during the Civil Rights movement 50 years ago so why give up on it now?
precisely. The light of day will wither them.
I hate using the conjunction 'socio-economic.' It sounds pretentious, but it's a useful term.
Hey, just because the right threw a Pimp 'n' Ho party to hurt poor black people, what, that's racist?
Cross burning: Racist or quirky-retro lighting design?
The most upsetting part of Brook's op-ed is when he says that the teabaggers are "Jeffersonians" and we are "Hamiltonians". Grrr.
Which one owned slaves?
Actually, Madison is my guiding light on all matters Founding Father-y. Dude was a total stud. That said, Hamilton was proved right by history given that his vision of federal power and American influence on the world stage is the one that we have been living in since around the time of the First World War + FDR's administration. Jefferson would be with the militia boys in Idaho if he knew what was going on these days.
Jefferson was such a hypocrite. Yeah, a nation of yeoman farmers is great, Mr. I Own Hundreds of Slaves to Farm for Me and I Prefer Paris. And, yes, bankers are evil Mr. I Was In Debt All The Time Because I Couldn't Stop Drinking French Wine And Buying Books (though I'm with him on the book part).
Ya know, one accidental printing error on those signs would lead to "I Want My Country Black."
Then you could convince Glenn Beck that the Tea-Partiers have actually thrown in with the Black Power movement in some sort of weird alliance.
Also: You're all racists.
not me, I'm just a socialist.
