I choose to view this as yet another installment in Buchanan's oeuvre of alternate reality Hitler fanfic.

In this reality, "The Grasshopper Lies Heavy" is written by Newt Gingrich and involves Soviets winning the battle of Gettysburg.

The last of the Great Hitler Apologists. Actually, he's been that for forty years now, hasn't he?

formerly it takes a lot etc.

AJP Taylor, a respected British historian and lefty, argued in the Origins of the Second World War that Hitler did not want or expect war with England and France when he invaded Poland, but was reacting to previous episodes of appeasement and expected that neither country would come to the aid of Poland despite the relevant treaties. He was blasted roundly for the view. Nevertheless, he's a respected if not revered historian.

So, yeah, Buchanan's generally pretty reprehensible and why any media outlet employs him is beyond me, but the question is a valid, if controversial, one.

Why the fuck does MSNBC employ this man?
